4.4.15.2. Free End Connection
Free End Connection
This selection allows you to place a connection object on only one beam (member). The system automatically calculates the reference end based on your mouse position relative to the beam end, which significantly speeds up construction as no explicit end point needs to be selected.
Prerequisites
- AutoCAD Plant 3D or Advance Steel is installed.
- The SuCri-Plugin is properly loaded.
- A 3D model with at least one beam (member) and one connection object (e.g., pipe support) is open.
- All relevant objects are visible in the model space.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Start the command in the SuCri ribbon
- Navigate to the SuCri tab in the top menu bar.
- Locate the Connections section.
- Click on the Free End command.
Expected Result: The AutoCAD command line prompts you to select the first object.
Step 2: Select the connection object
- Select the element that is to be attached to the beam (e.g., a pipe support).
- Click the object directly in the model.
Expected Result: The object is highlighted in color and the command line now prompts for the selection of the beam.
Step 3: Select the beam (member)
- Click on the desired beam (e.g., I-beam or mounting profile) where the connection should occur.
Expected Result: The beam is selected and the plugin prepares the generation of the connection.
Step 4: Positioning at the beam end
- Move the mouse along the beam near the end where the connection should be placed.
- Observe the dynamic preview: The connection automatically jumps to the nearest end.
- Confirm the position with a left-click.
Expected Result: The connection is firmly placed at the chosen position at the beam end.
Step 5: Adjust parameters and complete the command
- Verify the visual representation of the connection.
- If necessary, adjust parameters such as distances, bolt types, or plate thicknesses in the dialog box that appears.
- Finish the process by pressing the ESC key or Enter key.
Expected Result: The connection is fully created and parameterized.
Important Notes
- Selection Order: Make sure to select the connection object first and then the beam.
- Mouse Position: Only a rough mouse movement near the desired end is required for correct side detection.
- Object Snap (OSNAP): Activating object snaps helps with precise visual alignment.
- Visual Check: Use the dynamic preview of SuCri before the final click.
Troubleshooting
- Problem: The connection jumps to the wrong side of the beam.
- Solution: Move the mouse closer to the desired end before clicking.
- Problem: No preview appears after selecting the beam.
- Solution: Check the command line for error messages and ensure that the selected components are compatible.
- Problem: Components such as bolts are not displayed.
- Solution: Open the connection properties or the parameter window and check the dimensions stored there.
