7.5.5. Assembly designations are not entered into the other parts
In this article, you will learn how to correctly assign assembly numbers in Advance Steel and avoid missing entries. Correct assignment is essential for seamless documentation and positioning of your components within assemblies.
Prerequisites
- The affected components (e.g., beams, plates, brackets) must be physically welded together or defined as an assembly in Advance Steel using appropriate connecting means.
Step-by-Step Instructions
-
Enter assembly into a component
Select any component from the group (e.g., the main beam or a base plate). Open the properties and enter the desired designation in the Assembly field. It does not matter which element of the group you choose.
-
Run numbering
Start the Numbering command in Advance Steel. Only through this process does the software recognize the logical belonging of the welded or connected elements.
-
Check the result
After completing the numbering, Advance Steel automatically transfers the assembly designation from the initially marked part to all associated elements of the group. Perform spot checks to ensure that all components of the assembly now bear the identical number.
Expected result: All parts of the welded group show the correct Assembly Number in their properties.
Important Notes
- Follow the sequence: Advance Steel assigns assembly numbers only during numbering. The entry in at least one component must be made before starting the numbering process.
- Subsequent changes: If components are added, welded, or connected to an existing assembly at a later stage, the numbering must be carried out again to update the designations.
- Connection types: If in doubt, check the connection types. Only correctly recognized shop connections (welds or high-strength bolts with shop status) lead to an automatic number transfer.
Troubleshooting
- Symptom: Despite numbering, the Assembly fields for attachment parts remain empty.
- Solution: Verify if the parts actually form a fixed assembly. Use the "Display objects connected in shop" command to ensure Advance Steel recognizes the elements as a connected unit. Additionally, check if the checkboxes for numbering are correctly set in the project or object settings.
