7. Clip-Box

SuCri Module 7 – Using the Clip-Box for Model Isolation

The Clip-Box control panel offers specialized tools for defining a 3D bounding box within your CAD environment. This clipping hides geometry outside the defined frame. This allows specific areas in large-scale models to be precisely isolated for detailed work or complex reviews without permanently changing the model structure.

Advantages and Application Benefits of the Clip-Box

The Clip-Box represents a convenient and efficient alternative to manually isolating objects or hiding entire layers. In complex large-scale projects, it also noticeably optimizes display performance, as the graphics engine only needs to render the geometry within the box.

A particular advantage is the support for external references (XRefs): Even referenced models that intersect the Clip-Box area are precisely clipped to the defined region. This ensures a clear working environment for cross-disciplinary planning.

Individual Customization of the Box

Once a Clip-Box has been created in the model, it behaves like a standard AutoCAD object and can be selected at any time. Using the dynamic grips, you can adjust the dimensions of the box intuitively and precisely to your current task.

The Clip-Box can be deleted if necessary and rebuilt at a new position in the model. This allows for a quick switch between different detailed views within your project without losing focus on the overall context.

Detailed Functions of the Clip-Box

Using the Clip-Box is divided into two essential steps: defining the spatial area and activating the view. In this section, you will learn how to use these tools effectively.

1. 7.1 Prepare

This step defines the exact physical boundary of the Clip-Box in three-dimensional space.

Workflow: Click the "Prepare" button. If a clipping area already exists in the model, it can be used as a base or redefined by selecting new corner points. The resulting frame serves as a mask for all visible objects.

2. 7.2 Cut Out

With this function, you control the visibility of the clipping based on the previously prepared frame.

Behavior: This function toggles model clipping on or off. If no clipping frame has been prepared yet, a system message appears prompting you to define the frame (step 7.1). This allows you to quickly switch between the isolated view and the overall representation.

Subordinate Functions

1. 7.1 Prepare

Defines the boundary of the Clip-Box. Use the ribbon button Clip-Box > Prepare or the command PiCriPrepareClipBox. Click on "Prepare". If a clipping area already exists, it can be adjusted or redefined.

2. 7.2 Cut Out

Toggles model clipping on or off using the prepared clipbox. Use the ribbon button Clipbox > Clip or the command PiCriClipBox. If no clipping frame has been prepared, a note regarding the necessary preparation will appear.
