4.1.1. Automatic nominal diameter check
Automatic Nominal Diameter Check
The Automatic Nominal Diameter Check function automatically checks during the placement of pipe supports whether the outside diameter of the pipe lies within the permissible clamping range of the support. This ensures that incorrect combinations are recognized and visually highlighted during modeling, which significantly increases design quality.
Prerequisites
- The pipe supports must be stored in the pipe spec with correct clamping ranges.
- The piping element must have a defined outside diameter (OD).
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Select support: Select the desired support from the pipe spec (e.g., a Pipe Shoe DN 100 with a clamping range of 109–115 mm).
- Placement: Place the support at the intended location on the pipe in the model.
- Automatic Check: During placement, the system checks in the background whether the outside diameter of the pipe falls within the stored clamping range of the support.
-
Warning Message:
If the value does not match, the following warning message automatically appears:
Pipe OD not in support range. - Confirmation: Click the OK button to confirm the message.
Expected Result: The support is placed in the model, but is displayed in red to visually indicate the dimensional discrepancy.
Important Notes
- Quality Assurance: The function prevents incorrect designs and minimizes costly errors during the construction phase.
- No Block: The warning serves as an important notice but does not constitute a hard block; placement is technically still possible.
- Documentation: In the case of necessary special solutions, the visual discrepancy (red display) should be explicitly documented during the course of the project.
- Data Maintenance: Ensure that pipe and support data (OD and clamping ranges) are always correctly maintained in the catalogs.
Troubleshooting
- The warning appears despite correct dimensions: Check the values stored in the catalog for the outside diameter and clamping ranges. If necessary, check the CAD family for incorrect parameters.
- Warning for special dimensions: Since placement is still possible, you can set the support. Mark this case internally as an approved special solution.
- Deactivation of the function: This is not recommended, as important design notices would be suppressed and the risk of error during material ordering would increase.
