In this manual, you will learn how to use the SuCri plugin to automatically place supports for pipelines on structural profiles in AutoCAD Plant 3D and Advance Steel. By using the SuCri2AutoSelectSupport module, you significantly increase the efficiency and precision of your design processes.
4.2.4. Bracket (SuCri2AutoSelectSupport)
Support (SuCri2AutoSelectSupport)
Prerequisites
- Installed AutoCAD Plant 3D or Advance Steel with a valid license.
- Installed and functional SuCri plugin from IntegaDesign GmbH.
- An open model with at least one structural profile (e.g., I-beam) and one pipeline.
- Loaded content for support components and profile families.
Step-by-Step Instructions
-
Start the SuCri plugin and load the tool palette
Open your project in AutoCAD Plant 3D or Advance Steel. In the ribbon, click on the SuCri plugin tab and select the button to open the SuCri tool palette.
Expected result: The "SuCri" tool palette is displayed at the edge of the screen.
-
Activate the "Support" module
In the palette, look for the Support icon or the entry SuCri2AutoSelectSupport and click on it.
Expected result: The command line displays the prompt for object selection.
-
Select structural profile as target object
Use the left mouse button to select the structural profile (e.g., U-channel or I-beam) to which the support should be attached.
Expected result: The profile is highlighted in blue and the system prompts you to select the pipeline.
-
Select pipeline
Now click on the pipeline that runs below the beam.
Expected result: The support is automatically calculated and a standard preview is displayed in the model.
-
Configure support parameters
Adjust the following values in the properties dialog that now appears:
- Support type: Select, for example, Pipe clamp with threaded rod from the drop-down menu.
- Distances: Define the distance to the beam or an offset in millimeters.
- Material/Size: Check the diameter of the threaded rod.
Confirm your entries with OK or Apply.
Expected result: The final support is generated in the model with all individual components.
-
Review and Completion
Visually check the alignment of the components and save your drawing.
Important Notes
- Order: Strictly ensure that you select the structural profile first and then the pipeline.
- Dynamic Preview: Use the preview function during parameter adjustment to detect collisions immediately.
- Project Standards: After creation, check the Properties palette to ensure that layers and object styles comply with your standards.
- Shortcuts: Use ESC to cancel, F3 for object snap, and F8 for ortho mode.
Troubleshooting
- Support is not displayed: Check if the physical distance between the beam and the pipe is large enough for the selected support component.
- Error message "Invalid selection": Make sure you have clicked on actual intelligent objects (Plant 3D Pipes/Steel Members), not construction lines or dimensions.
- Performance Issues: For very large models, temporarily disable dynamic input during the mass placement of supports.
