After several quieter years, Plant 3D 2026 brings an update with noticeable added value again. Until now the symbol path had to be set per project, which quickly became confusing with many projects and made maintaining uniform standards harder. Now it can be managed centrally. Improved backup
In the project backup dialogue you can now choose the storage location and open the backup directory directly at the end. The backup also runs faster than before. Shared selection lists
Selection lists can now be shared and maintained centrally. A list created in the P&ID section can also be used in the Plant 3D area instead of being set up separately on both sides. That not only saves duplicated work but also prevents the two areas from drifting apart over time because a list was updated in one place and not in the other.
Excel import and export for lists
Anyone working with extensive data can now import selection lists quickly and correctly through Excel, ideal for customer or project requirements. Existing or longer lists are read in conveniently instead of creating every line individually in the configuration. That noticeably speeds up setting up new projects and reduces typing errors when taking over extensive requirements.
Modelling and editing
Faster nozzle editing
Clicking each attribute individually on equipment nozzles is no longer necessary. Editing now goes faster and more directly. With equipment that has many nozzles in particular, the time saved adds up, and the work becomes more pleasant because the constant clicking back and forth is gone.
Preview for equipment templates
Before inserting a new component, an equipment template can now be shown in a preview. That saves time and prevents misplacement, because what is actually being inserted becomes visible beforehand. The detour of inserting a component, checking it and removing it again is therefore often unnecessary.
Ortho generation
The dialogue for orthographic generation now offers two additional options that speed up the process. As deriving orthographic representations is a regular and often time-consuming step, any acceleration here feeds directly into project progress.
Ports with their own properties
Every port now shows its own properties, which makes modelling clearer in complex projects in particular. Information that was previously hard to assign can now be read directly at the port concerned, which improves traceability in the model.
The biggest new feature: the reworked Spec Editor
The most important improvement from our point of view is in the reworked Spec Editor. Maintaining pipe specs was long a laborious business of switching back and forth between catalogue and pipe spec. Now the pipe spec and the catalogue appear next to each other in a side-by-side view, components can be edited directly, and searching, filtering and editing are considerably simpler.
For everyone working with specifications regularly, this is one of the most important updates in years. Maintaining pipe specs, which previously tied up a lot of concentration and time, becomes more productive and clearer, and errors caused by switching between separate views become rarer.
