8.5.12. Views Appear Twisted on the Drawing

In Advance Steel, drawing views may sometimes appear misaligned or twisted, with components often "lying on their side". This guide explains how to ensure a clean representation by selecting the correct main part and aligning the coordinate system.

Prerequisites

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Check Main Part: Check whether the currently defined main part of the assembly is a horizontal profile (beam). To do this, execute the Advance Steel command to highlight the main part. The part will be marked in blue.
  2. Correct Main Part: If a column or a vertical part is marked as the main part, use the command Create Main Part of Assembly and select a horizontal profile instead.
  3. Check Local Coordinate System (LCS): Display the coordinate system of the main part. The surface should be spanned along the XZ or YZ plane. If this appears twisted, the LCS must be corrected.
  4. Reposition Coordinate System: Click on the coordinate system icon of the main part and place it at a corner of the main profile.
  5. Align Axes: Rotate the axis system around the X-axis until the XY plane corresponds to the desired view surface.
  6. Fix LCS: Use the command for the final modification of the local coordinate system of the main part.
  7. Restore World Coordinate System: Finally, reset the system via WCS → World to maintain the global orientation in the model.

Expected Result: When you display the local plane again, the orientation is correct and the drawing views will be generated without rotation.
