    4.2.11. Support + Clamping System (SuCri2AutoSelectSupportClamp)

This document provides a detailed guide on how to use the SuCri module Support + Clamping System in AutoCAD Plant 3D and Advance Steel. You will learn how to intelligently attach a clamping system to a beam structure to securely hang components such as piping.

    Prerequisites

    • Installed Software: AutoCAD Plant 3D and/or Advance Steel.
    • Installed SuCri Plugin: The plugin from IntegaDesign GmbH must be correctly installed and licensed.
    • Existing 3D Model: A model with at least one beam structure (e.g., an I-profile) and an element to be supported (e.g., a pipe).
    • Knowledge: Basic operation of AutoCAD Plant 3D or Advance Steel.

    Step-by-Step Instructions

    Step 1: Accessing the Function

    1. Open your CAD application and load the relevant project.
    2. Look for the SuCri tab or the SuCri palette in the ribbon.
    3. In the group for Module 2 – Functions, click on the command Support + Clamping System (alternatively, enter the command SuCri2AutoSelectSupportClamp).

Expected Result: The automatic selection process is started.

    Step 2: Selecting the Beam

    1. Pay attention to the prompt in the command line to select the reference beam.
    2. Click on the beam (e.g., the I-profile) to which the system is to be attached.

Expected Result: The beam is registered for clamping in the system.

Step 3: Defining the Attachment Point

    1. Define a point on the beam for the mounting.
    2. Use Object Snaps (OSNAP) for maximum precision (e.g., Midpoint or Endpoint).

Expected Result: The plugin recognizes the point as a reference for placement.

Step 4: Selecting the Object to be Supported

    1. Now select the object that is to be supported (e.g., a pipeline).
    2. Confirm the selection by clicking on the 3D object.

Step 5: Defining the Support Point and Alignment

    1. Define the exact point on the pipe where the support should attach.
    2. Use Nearest for an orthogonal alignment or the Midpoint for a centered placement.
    3. If necessary, follow the instructions in the command line to manually correct the alignment if the system does not do this automatically.

    Step 6: Final Generation

    1. The system now automatically calculates the required components (beam clamp, threaded rod, pipe attachment).
    2. If a dialog window appears, you can manually adjust parameters such as the suspension length – however, in the standard case, this happens automatically.

Expected Result: The complete, intelligent clamping system is placed as a 3D object in the model.

    Important Notes

    • Precision: Using object snaps (key F3) is crucial for error-free positioning.
    • Libraries: The plugin accesses stored component catalogs; ensure that the required dimensions are available in the SuCri settings.
    • Intelligence: The generated objects are parametrically linked. If the beam position changes, the clamping system usually adjusts automatically.
    • Clash Detection: Always perform a visual check or an automated clash detection after placement.

    Troubleshooting

    • System is not generated: Check whether the pipe diameter or the beam profile is stored in the SuCri libraries.
    • Incorrect Alignment: Delete the component and start the command again. Pay particular attention to the chosen object snaps.
    • Command does not react: Ensure that the license is active and the plugin has been loaded correctly. Restarting the CAD software can help.
    • No automatic adjustment: Check in the Properties whether it is an intelligent SuCri object or whether the link was broken by manual editing.
