Learn here why Advance Steel models in Plant 3D with SuCri Module 4 are not automatically dimensioned and what this means for your drawings. In this article you receive information on the technical background as well as recommendations for the optimal use of the software.

Prerequisites

You have referenced an Advance Steel steelwork model into a Plant 3D project and intend to create a drawing derivation with SuCri Module 4.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Reference the Advance Steel model (e.g. a steel platform or a frame) into your Plant 3D project.
  2. Create a drawing with SuCri Module 4.
  3. Check the result: The steelwork is indeed visible on the drawing, but is not automatically dimensioned and does not appear in the bill of materials.

Expected result: The steelwork serves only for visual representation and spatial orientation within the plant planning.

Important notes

  • System differences: Advance Steel and Plant 3D are based on different data structures. Plant 3D can indeed display the geometry, but cannot interpret "intelligent" metadata such as profile information, connections or position numbers.
  • How SuCri Module 4 works: The module works exclusively with native Plant 3D objects. Referenced Advance Steel models are treated only as pure geometry without technical data.
  • Intended behavior: Since the metadata necessary for dimensioning is missing in the Plant 3D environment, automatic dimensioning or bill-of-materials creation is not provided for these objects.

Troubleshooting

If you need automated dimensioning or bills of materials for the steelwork, please note the following solutions:

  • Drawing creation in Advance Steel: If an Advance Steel model is used, the detailed drawing creation (incl. dimensioning and bills of materials) must take place directly in Advance Steel.
  • Leading system: For all further steelwork evaluations (fabrication, connections, holes), Advance Steel remains the authoritative system.
  • Purpose in SuCri: Use SuCri Module 4 in connection with Advance Steel only for the visual representation on plant drawings, for example to ensure spatial coordination and orientation.
