4.2.5. Export supports (SuCri2ExportPrimarySupport)

Overview

This guide describes the process of exporting primary supports from an AutoCAD Plant 3D drawing (DWG) using the command SuCri2ExportPrimarySupport (Module 3). The exported supports, including their tags, can then be imported into Autodesk Advance Steel as Special Parts to ensure seamless integration in the design workflow.

How it works in detail

Step 1: Start AutoCAD Plant 3D and open DWG

• Start AutoCAD Plant 3D.
• Open the DWG file that contains the primary supports to be exported.
• Expected result: The drawing is visible in the workspace and ready for editing.

Step 2: Call up the AutoCAD command line

• Press the F2 key to open the AutoCAD text window, or use the command line at the bottom of the screen.
• Expected result: The command line is active and ready for input.

Step 3: Enter the export command

• Enter the command SuCri2ExportPrimarySupport precisely into the command line and confirm with Enter.
• Note: Pay attention to the correct spelling, as this is a hidden command.
• Expected result: The SuCri plugin initiates the export process.

Step 4: Review the confirmation dialog

• A dialog window appears showing the specific target path within the Module 3 bundle.
• Expected result: A dialog with path information is displayed.

Step 5: Confirm the export process

• Click the OK button in the dialog window.
• Expected result: All primary supports of the active DWG are exported to the target path together with their tags. The dialog closes automatically.

Step 6: Verification in the installation path (optional)

• Use Windows Explorer to navigate to the path specified in the dialog.
• Expected result: The exported files (e.g. in XML format) are present in the directory.

Step 7: Import into Advance Steel

• Open Autodesk Advance Steel.
• Use the command SuCri2ImportPrimarySupport to read in the data.
• Expected result: The supports are imported at their correct position as Special Parts.

Tips and best practices

• Hidden command: The command is not accessible via the user interface (ribbon) and must be typed in manually.
• Tag export: Carrying over the tags is crucial for identifying the components in Advance Steel.
• Path specification: Note down the export path from Step 4 in case you need to manage files manually.

Troubleshooting

• Command is not recognized: Check the spelling of SuCri2ExportPrimarySupport or make sure the plugin was loaded correctly.
• License error: Check whether your Module 3 license is active.
• No supports exported: Make sure the supports in the current DWG are defined as primary supports.
