Handling unsupported profiles in SuCri

Learn how you can handle challenges when creating connections with SuCri in Advance Steel by using pseudo profiles. These instructions show you solutions and recommendations for effective modeling when profiles are not directly recognized.

Prerequisites

• The Advance Steel software with the SuCri plugin installed is ready for use.
• The profile to be connected is currently not supported or recognized by SuCri (e.g. special profiles or customer-specific cross-sections).

Step-by-step instructions

1. Select a pseudo profile: Choose a standard profile from the Advance Steel library that comes as close as possible in its dimensions to the unsupported original profile and is supported by SuCri.
2. Place the pseudo profile: Model this pseudo profile at the location where the actual profile is to sit later.
3. Create the connection: Place the desired connection using SuCri on this pseudo profile.

   Expected result: SuCri recognizes the standard profile and creates the desired connection correctly.

4. Exclude the profile from lists: Select the pseudo profile, open the Advance Steel properties and deactivate the options for numbering and the bill of materials.
5. Layer assignment: Place the pseudo profile on a separate layer that you can hide if needed in order to maintain clarity in the model.
6. Place the original profile: Now place the actual, unsupported profile at exactly the same position.

   Expected result: The connection remains in the model and is assigned to the pseudo profile, while the original profile ensures the correct graphical representation and fabrication data.

Important notes

• Geometry match: The chosen pseudo profile should correspond as precisely as possible in geometry and dimensions to the original so that the connection dimensions are consistent.
• Validation: After placement, check all connection and drill points manually for their correctness.
• Structural check: You must ensure that the chosen connection is also structurally suitable and permissible for the actual original profile.
• Field of application: This method is particularly helpful for manufacturer-specific profiles that have not yet been integrated into the SuCri logic.

Troubleshooting

• Connection is not suggested: Check in the SuCri logic data record whether the chosen pseudo profile is actually stored for the desired connection type.
• Collisions in the model: Since two profiles lie at the same location, make sure that the pseudo profile is consistently excluded from lists and numbering in order to avoid duplications in the documentation.
