Connection Collision
The Collision function in SuCri (Module 3 - Connections) allows you to define connections between profiles precisely. It is assumed that the end point of the center of gravity axis of the profile to be connected (beam) lies on the center of gravity axis of the connecting profile (column). Although it is technically possible for a beam to end in front of or behind the center of gravity axis, an actual intersection point ensures the correct placement of the connection by the software.
Prerequisites
- Installed AutoCAD Plant 3D or Advance Steel.
- Installed and licensed SuCri Plugin (Module 3 "Connections").
- Existing profiles in the model (at least one beam and one column) whose center of gravity axes ideally intersect.
- Active SuCri workspace in the ribbon.
Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Opening the SuCri Connections module
- In your CAD program, navigate to the SuCri tab in the upper ribbon area.
- Within the "Connections" group, click the corresponding icon for the connection definitions.
Expected result: The SuCri connection interface or a submenu with different connection types opens.
Step 2: Selecting the connection type "Collision"
- In the opened menu, look for the entry Collision and select it.
Expected result: The command line shows the prompt to select the first profile (beam).
Step 3: Selecting the first profile (beam)
- Click the profile in the model that should act as the beam (the component to be connected).
Expected result: The profile is visually highlighted and the system prompts you to select the column.
Step 4: Selecting the second profile (column) and orientation
- Move the mouse pointer over the column (the profile to which the connection is made).
- Click the column to confirm the selection.
Important for asymmetric connections: For components such as angles or angled brackets, the mouse position when clicking on the column determines the orientation. Click to the right of the column for a right orientation, to the left for a left orientation.
Expected result: SuCri generates the connection based on the center of gravity axes and the mouse position and places it in the model.
Step 5: Checking and adjusting
- Visually check the generated connection for correct positioning.
- If a connection palette opens automatically, you can adjust parameters here such as weld seam types or screw diameters.
Expected result: The connection is fully configured and integrated into the model.
Important notes
- Center of gravity axis: The accuracy depends on the clean modeling of the center of gravity axes.
- Asymmetry: Remember: the mouse position when clicking on the column is decisive for the orientation of the connection.
- Shortcut: Use
ESCto cancel,ENTERto confirm andF3for object snap (OSNAP) to grab profiles precisely.
Troubleshooting
- Connection is not created: Check whether the center of gravity axes of the profiles actually touch or intersect. If necessary, move the beam minimally.
- Wrong orientation: Repeat the process and, in step 4, pay attention to the position of your mouse pointer relative to the column axis.
- SuCri command missing: Make sure that the plugin is correctly licensed and restart the CAD program if necessary.
