4.2.8. Clamping system [x] (SuCri2AutoSelectMultipleClamp)
On this page
Overview
This guide describes the use of the SuCri clamping system (Module 2), in particular the function SuCri2AutoSelectMultipleClamp. With this function you automatically place clamps and hanger brackets on several selected pipes below a beam, to optimize the design process in AutoCAD Plant 3D and Advance Steel.
Where do I find the function?
Call it via the command SuCri2AutoSelectMultipleClamp or via the ribbon SuCri > Module 2.

How it works in detail
- Prepare the CAD software: Start AutoCAD Plant 3D or Advance Steel and load the model with the relevant beams and pipes.
- Call the SuCri function: In the ribbon menu, navigate to the SuCri tab. Under Module 2 - functions, select the command Clamping system [x] or SuCri2AutoSelectMultipleClamp.
- Select the beam: In the 3D model, click directly on the beam that is to serve as the reference element for the attachment. Confirm the selection with Enter.
-
Select the pipes:
Now select all pipes that are to be attached below the beam. You can do this by individual selection (holding down the Ctrl key) or by window selection across all relevant lines. Confirm with Enter.
Result: The selection is stored in the system for automatic generation. Define parameters (optional): If a dialog window opens, you can make the following settings:
- Distance between the clamps
- Type of clamping system (e.g. single or double clamp)
- Materials/sizes according to the pipe specification
- Offset (horizontal/vertical distance)
Click OK to apply the values.
- Automatic generation: The plugin now generates the pipe clamps, hanger brackets or threaded rods as well as the beam anchor systems. Depending on the complexity, this process may take a few seconds.
- Check: Check the result in the 3D model by zooming and rotating. Watch for correct positioning and any collisions.
Tips and best practices
- Model quality: Precise geometries of the beams are crucial for error-free placement.
- Layer management: Check your layer settings, as components are created on specific SuCri layers.
- Standard shortcuts: Use Enter to confirm, Esc to cancel and Ctrl + click for multiple selection.
- Updates: Keep the plugin and CAD software up to date to avoid malfunctions.
Troubleshooting
- Command not visible: Use the command
APPLOADto check whether the plugin is loaded and whether the license is active. - Error message during object selection: Make sure these are native CAD objects (beam/pipe) and not simple lines.
- Clamps invisible: Check whether the target layer is switched off or frozen.
- Collisions: Adjust the offsets in the parameters or move the components manually after generation.
