4.2.10. Detach (SuCri2DetachSupport)

Overview

This guide describes in detail the function Detach (SuCri2DetachSupport) of SuCri, a plugin for AutoCAD Plant 3D and Advance Steel. You will learn how to efficiently separate supports, pipe clamps or other construction elements from their original components in order to edit them independently.

Call it via the command SuCri2DetachSupport or via the ribbon SuCri > Module 2.

How it works in detail

1. Call up the SuCri menu:

   In your model, navigate to the SuCri ribbon bar. Look for the option SuCri2DetachSupport, which you will usually find in the Module 2 - Functions area. Alternatively, enter the command SuCri2DetachSupport directly into the command line.

2. Activate the "Detach" command:

   Click the Detach button. The command line now prompts you to select an object.

3. Select the individual part to be detached:

   Click on the component (e.g. a pipe clamp or column) that is to be separated. If necessary, confirm the selection with the Enter key.

4. Select the original component (optional):

   If the system prompts you to do so, select the original component or the anchor point (e.g. the beam) from which the connection is to be detached.

5. Confirmation and execution:

   After the selection, SuCri carries out the separation. The component retains its intelligent properties but is now geometrically independent.

6. Checking the separation:

   Move the component as a test. The expected result is that the element can be moved freely without affecting the position of the original anchor point.

Tips and best practices

• Intelligent objects: Detaching only removes the geometric anchoring; the component's metadata and intelligent properties are retained.
• Repositioning: After separation, the object can be transformed freely in space and reattached at a new location if required.
• Undo: Use the standard AutoCAD function (Ctrl+Z) to undo an accidental detach. There is no system-side "auto-reattach" after the command.
• Saving: Save your project regularly, especially before extensive structural changes.

Troubleshooting

• "Object cannot be selected": Check whether the object's layer is locked and whether it is a supported SuCri component.
• "Command not found": Make sure the plugin is marked as loaded in the plugin manager of AutoCAD/Advance Steel.
• "Detach has no effect": Check whether the object is additionally fixed by native AutoCAD groups or blocks, as these are not detached by the command.
