4.2.21. Detach Xref (SuCri2DetachXref)

Overview

In this guide you will learn how to use the SuCri function Detach to separate previously linked elements from each other in AutoCAD Plant 3D or Advance Steel. This is necessary in order to be able to edit or delete components such as pipes and supports independently of each other again.

How it works in detail

Step 1: Initializing the detach command

1. Navigate in the ribbon of your CAD application to the SuCri tab.

2. Click the Detach button (symbolized by a broken chain).

   • Alternative: Enter the command SuCri2DetachXref directly in the command line and confirm with Enter.

Expected result: The mouse pointer changes into a selection cross and the command line prompts you to select an object.

Step 2: Selecting the object to be detached

1. Click the object that is to be detached from the link (e.g. the pipe support).
2. Make sure to select the attached component, not the primary Xref source.

Expected result: The selected object is highlighted graphically.

Step 3: Confirming the selection

1. Press the Enter key to complete the process. You can also select several objects one after another beforehand to detach them at the same time.

Expected result: SuCri separates the link. A confirmation message appears in the command line.

Step 4: Checking the separation

1. Use the AutoCAD command MOVE (MOVE) to move the detached element.
2. If the object moves independently of the original source, the separation was successful.

Expected result: The object now behaves like an independent entity.

Tips and best practices

• Dependencies: After detaching, automatic functions such as size adjustments or positioning are no longer applied to this object.
• Undo: The process can be undone via the standard command UNDO (CTRL + Z).
• Geometry: The geometry remains unchanged; only the logical link is deleted.

Troubleshooting

• Object still cannot be moved: Check in the object properties whether it really is a SuCri Xref link or whether another block reference is present. Repeat the process if necessary after restarting the drawing.
• Command unknown: Check whether the SuCri plugin is loaded correctly. If necessary, reload the plugin manually or restart the application.
