    Overview

This guide describes in detail how to use the SuCri module Clamping system (SuCri2AutoSelectClamp) for AutoCAD Plant 3D and Advance Steel. You will learn how to automatically place hangers, clamps and pendulum rods and align them to steel beams in order to fasten pipes efficiently.

    How it works in detail

    Step 1: Accessing the function

    1. Open your project in AutoCAD Plant 3D or Advance Steel.
    2. Navigate in the ribbon to the SuCri tab.
    3. Click the command Clamping system or SuCri2AutoSelectClamp.

Step 2: Selecting the object to be suspended

    1. The program prompts you to select the object.
    2. Click the corresponding pipe in the model.
    3. Confirm the selection with the Enter key or the right mouse button.

Step 3: Selecting the supporting component

    1. Click the steel beam (e.g. I- or U-profile) to which the clamp is to be fastened.
    2. Confirm the selection again.

Step 4: Positioning on the beam

    1. A dynamic preview model of the clamping system appears.
    2. Move the mouse along the steel beam to determine the position. The system aligns the pendulum rod automatically.
    3. Click the desired position to place the clamping firmly.
    4. Press ESC to end the command after placement.

    Step 5: Adjusting the parameters

If configured, a dialog window opens for the following adjustments:

    • Clamp type: Selection of specific beam clamps.
    • Length of the pendulum rod: Manual correction of the distance.
    • Material: Selection of the surface finish.
    • Fastening type: Specification of the screw connections.

    Confirm your changes with OK.

    Step 6: Checking the result

    1. Check in the 3D view whether the clamp sits correctly on the flange.
    2. Make sure there are no collisions with other components.
    3. Expected result: A vertically aligned support that encloses the pipe and is firmly anchored to the beam.

    Tips and best practices

    • Precision: Use the object snap (F3) to hit pipes and beams exactly.
    • Catalogs: The function is based on component catalogs. Make sure these are up to date.
    • Performance: In very complex models, hide layers that are not needed to ensure a smooth preview.
    • Hierarchy: The clamping system is usually inserted as a block; keep this in mind for manual changes.

    Troubleshooting

    • System is not placed: Check whether these are valid CAD objects. Restart the command.
    • Wrong alignment: Delete the element and place it again, paying attention to the snap points.
    • Missing components: Check the installation of the SuCri libraries or contact support.
