4.3.3. Place axis system on drawing (SuCri3DrawGridToLayoutPlan)

    Overview

With Place axis system on drawing you draw the axis reference of a component to scale in the layout plan. To do this, SuCri reads the grid reference stored on the component (horizontal and vertical axis with distance) and creates the two axis lines, the axis labels in circles and the dimension from the component to the axis in paper space.

The grid reference is defined on the component beforehand with SuCri3SetGridReference.

Where can I find the function?

Enter the command SuCri3DrawGridToLayoutPlan in the command line. If Module 3 is pinned to the tool palette, you will find the function in the Extras group (collapsed area) under Grid to layout.

    How it works in detail

    1. SuCri switches to the model space of the viewport and prompts Select an item in the Ortho viewport. In the viewport of the ortho view, select the component whose axis reference is to be drawn.
    2. SuCri determines the associated model object and reads its properties HorizontalGrid and VerticalGrid. The expected format is axis name+distance or axis name-distance, for example A+2500 or B-1000. If one of the two properties is empty or structured differently, the Invalid Grid Reference Data window appears with the expected format, and the command aborts.
    3. The transformation from model to paper and the scale are read from the viewport. The distances are converted with this scale.
    4. In paper space, a horizontal and a vertical axis line are created (linetype PHANTOM, color red, provided the linetype can be loaded), the two axis names as text in a circle, and one dimension each in the horizontal and vertical direction with the distance from the grid reference. A distance of 0 is not dimensioned.

    Application examples

Example 1: Support drawing with axis reference

On an ortho drawing of a support, it should be clear how far the support is from the building axes. After the axis reference has been defined on the component, the command places axes, axis names and dimensions to match the scale of the viewport.

    Tips and best practices

    • Define the axis reference first: Without a stored grid reference on the component, nothing can be drawn.
    • Check the format of the properties: HorizontalGrid and VerticalGrid must contain an axis name and a distance with a sign, for example A+2500.
    • Adjust the display: Text height, lines and dimensions are normal AutoCAD objects in paper space and can be edited afterwards. The current dimension style is used for the dimensions.

    Troubleshooting

    • Invalid Grid Reference Data window: At least one of the properties HorizontalGrid or VerticalGrid is empty or does not have the format axis name+distance. Add the value in the properties of the component.
    • Cannot resolve model object from selection: Select a component within the viewport of an ortho view, not an object in paper space.
    • Warning about the PHANTOM linetype: The linetype could not be loaded from acad.lin. The axis lines are then drawn without this linetype.
