    Overview

    This guide describes the use of the Support [x] function of the SuCri plugin in AutoCAD Plant 3D and Advance Steel. This function allows you to efficiently integrate multiple supports into your model at the same time, based on an automatic selection of pipes and beams.

    Where do I find the function?

    Call it via the command SuCri2AutoSelectMultipleSupport or via the ribbon SuCri > Module 2.

    How it works in detail

    Step 1: Prepare the model

    1. Start AutoCAD Plant 3D or Advance Steel.
    2. Open the relevant DWG file that contains your pipes and beams.

    Expected result: The 3D model with the elements to be processed is visible in the model space.

    Step 2: Call the function

    1. In the ribbon, switch to the SuCri tab.
    2. Find the Support [x] button (tooltip: SuCri2AutoSelectMultipleSupport) and click it.

    Expected result: The function is activated and the command line prompts you to select objects.

    Step 3: Select pipes

    1. Select the pipes for which supports are to be generated (via individual selection or window/crossing).
    2. Confirm the selection with the Enter key (Enter).

    Expected result: The selected pipes are highlighted.

    Step 4: Select beams

    1. Now select the beam objects (steel construction) to which the supports are to be attached.
    2. Confirm again with the Enter key (Enter).

    Expected result: SuCri starts the automatic calculation and placement of the components.

    Step 5: Check the result

    1. Check the automatically generated support constructions (e.g. clamps, threaded rods, beam clamps) in the model space.
    2. If necessary, click individual components to adjust their properties in the AutoCAD properties window.

    Expected result: The supports connect the pipes correctly to the beams.

    Tips and best practices

    • Visibility: Objects must not be on locked or hidden layers.
    • Object types: The function only recognizes native Plant 3D pipes and Advance Steel beams. Simple 3D solids are ignored.
    • Performance: With a very high number of objects, the calculation can take a few seconds.
    • Shortcut: Use the space bar or Enter key to confirm and Esc to cancel the command.

    Troubleshooting

    • Command not found: Check whether the plugin is loaded correctly and your license is active. Restart AutoCAD if necessary.
    • Supports are not generated: Make sure the pipes and beams are spatially positioned relative to each other so that an attachment is logically possible (overlap in the projection).
    • Wrong components: Check the SuCri configuration files for the preset support types and rule sets.
    • System crash: Save your model before running complex automations and reduce the amount of simultaneously selected objects if necessary.
