8.5.12. Views appear rotated on the drawing
On this page
In Advance Steel it can happen that drawing views appear incorrectly aligned or rotated, with components often "lying on their side". This guide explains how to ensure a clean representation through the correct selection of the main part and the alignment of the coordinate system.
Prerequisites
- The model is open in Advance Steel.
- The components are already defined as an assembly.
Step-by-step guide
- Check the main part: Check whether the currently defined main part of the assembly is a horizontal profile (beam). To do this, run the Advance Steel command for highlighting the main part. The part is marked in blue.
- Correct the main part: If a column or a vertical part is marked as the main part, use the command Create main part of assembly and select a horizontal profile instead.
- Check the local coordinate system (LCS): Display the coordinate system of the main part. The face should be spanned along the XZ or YZ plane. If this appears rotated, the LCS must be corrected.
- Set the coordinate system anew: Click the coordinate system symbol of the main part and place it at a corner of the main profile.
- Align the axes: Rotate the axis system around the X axis until the XY plane corresponds to the desired view face.
- Fix the LCS: Use the command for the final change of the local coordinate system of the main part.
- Restore the world coordinate system: Finally reset the system via UCS → World to preserve the global orientation in the model.
Expected result: When you display the local plane again, the orientation is correct and the drawing views are generated without rotation.
Important notes
- Beam-based styles: Note that the SuCri styles from IntegaDesign are beam-based and therefore mandatorily require a horizontal main part.
- Prevention: Ideally check the alignment before the first drawing creation to avoid rework.
- Stability: Avoid deleting main parts after the drawing creation, as this can destroy the link of the views.
Troubleshooting
- View still wrong: Check whether, when rotating the LCS, the X axis actually points in the longitudinal direction of the profile.
- Part does not turn blue: Make sure you are in the correct selection mode for assemblies before using the command for highlighting.
