4.3.7. Update item numbers (SuCri3SetItemCodes)
On this page
Overview
Update item numbers fills the Item Code property of the steel profiles in the current drawing with the item number from the SuCri profile data. The profiles supplied with SuCri come with a weight out of the box, but the item number needed for ordering is missing.
Only after this run can a profile be ordered unambiguously, because the item number is on the component. In Plant 3D™, the command writes only the item number. Profile lengths are not changed.
Where can I find the function?
In the Module 3 window under Quick Access > Update Itemcode of Profiles. If Module 3 is pinned to the tool palette, you will find the function in the Parts group under Profile itemcodes. Alternatively, via the command line with SuCri3SetItemCodes.

How it works in detail
The command always captures all steel profiles of the current drawing. A selection is not provided in Plant 3D™.
- SuCri checks whether the ItemCode column exists in the SteelStructure project data table and creates it automatically if necessary.
- For each profile, SuCri reads the Size property and looks up the corresponding item number in the SuCri profile data (ProfileData.json). Differing profile designations between Plant 3D™ and Advance Steel™ are translated using the stored name mapping.
- If the size is found, SuCri writes the item number to the Item Code property. It is then available in every evaluation and bill of materials.
Application examples
Example: Labeling profiles before ordering
The steel structure of a drawing has been completely modeled. You call Update Itemcode of Profiles, and all supplied profiles receive their item number. The bill of materials then contains an orderable number for each profile.
Tips and best practices
- Run before every order: Otherwise, after profiles or profile sizes have been replaced, the item number is no longer correct.
- Check the field: If Item Code remains empty, the profile size (Size) is not stored in the SuCri profile data. The affected sizes are listed in the log file.
- Check lengths separately: To check the profile lengths, the tool palette provides the Validate profile length function (
SuCri3ValidateProfileLength).
Troubleshooting
- Current drawing doesn't have any structure. There are no steel profiles in the drawing. Open the drawing with the steel structure and call the command again.
- The profile data could not be loaded. Check ProfileData.json and the log file. The SuCri profile data is missing or damaged. Check the installation and the log file.
- Error in SuCri3SetItemCodes (P3D): An error occurred while writing. The details follow the message and are in the log file.
- Item Code remains empty for individual profiles: The profile size is not contained in the profile data, for example for profiles that do not come from the supplied catalog.
