4.3.6. Set the axis reference (SuCri3SetGridReference)
On this page
Overview
With Set the axis reference you store on a component the distance at which it lies from a reference point in the axis grid. SuCri writes the horizontal and vertical distances into the properties of the component and marks the reference point in the model. SuCri3DrawGridToLayoutPlan then uses this data to place the axis system on the drawing.
Where can I find the function?
Enter the command SuCri3SetGridReference in the command line. If Module 3 is pinned to the tool palette, you will find the function in the Extras group (collapsed area) under Grid reference.

How it works in detail
- The command line prompts Select Plant 3D Part. Steel or concrete structures and supports are permitted. For other objects, SuCri reports Object selected must be either a steel structure/concrete or support and cancels.
- SuCri creates the properties
HorizontalGridandVerticalGridin the associated project table if they are still missing. - Specify the point on the component that is to serve as the reference (Select a point on the part which should be used for Grid Reference).
- Specify the grid reference point (Select grid reference point (X,Y coordinates will be used as grid values)).
- SuCri calculates the distance between the two points in X and Y, rounds it to whole numbers and writes it to
HorizontalGrid(X) andVerticalGrid(Y). The component point is also stored on the component. - A grid point is inserted as a solid at the grid reference point. Any grid point previously set for this component is removed in the process.
- The command line reports Grid reference created successfully. as well as the grid point and the displacement in X and Y.
Application examples
Example 1: Relating a support to building axes
For a support, the distance to the nearest building axes is to be shown on the drawing. Select the support, click a distinctive point of the support and then the intersection of the axes. The distances are then stored in the properties of the support.
Tips and best practices
- Use object snap: Both points determine the stored distances. Use object snap so that the values are exact.
- Format for drawing the axis system:
SuCri3DrawGridToLayoutPlanexpects the format axis name+distance in the properties, for exampleA+2500. Check the properties before drawing. - Setting it again: Calling the command again on the same component overwrites the values and replaces the grid point.
Troubleshooting
- Object selected must be either a steel structure/concrete or support: Select a structural profile or a support, not a pipe or other objects.
- Failed to create grid point solid: The template
GridPoint.dwgin the resource folder of Module 3 could not be read. Check the installation and the log file. - Cancellation without result: If a point prompt is ended with Esc, SuCri reports Point selection cancelled or Grid reference point selection cancelled.
