    Overview

The Option switch snap points turns additional object snap points on supports and inline components on or off. When it is on, the Node object snap offers the corner points, edge midpoints as well as center points and quadrant points of curves of the component body. This allows you to dimension distances at edges of supports that otherwise cannot be snapped.

Where can I find the function?

On the SuCri tool palette, Module 2 tab, in the collapsible Extras section as Snap Points. The tool palette is available when you pin the dashboard with Pin to tool palette.

Alternatively, enter SuCri2SupportSnapPoint in the command line.

    How it works in detail

Each call toggles the state. SuCri reports Support Snap turn on or Support Snap turn off in the command line.

As long as the switch is active, the AutoCAD object snap Node provides the additional points of the body on supports and inline components: corner points, midpoints of straight edges as well as center points and quadrant points of arcs. All other snap modes behave as usual.

The state applies to the current session. After restarting Plant 3D, the switch is off again.

    Application examples

Example 1: Dimensioning the distance from a support edge

Turn on the snap points and activate the Node mode in the object snap settings. With the distance command, you can now snap the front edge of the support and measure the distance to the neighboring component.

    Tips and best practices

    • Activate the Node object snap: The additional points only appear when the Node snap mode is turned on.
    • Only turn on when needed: Many snap points at the same location make placing confusing. Turn the switch off again after dimensioning.
    • Turn on again after a restart: The switch is not saved permanently.

    Troubleshooting

    • No additional points: Check whether the message Support Snap turn on appeared and whether the Node object snap is active.
    • Snap points unwanted: Call the command again until Support Snap turn off is reported.
