Optimize Plant 3D view creation with the SuCri setting DetailOrthoCube. Avoid unwanted geometry in drawings. Learn how to get clean, object-related views.

Problem description

During view creation in Plant 3D (e.g. via SuCri Module 4), it can happen that unwanted geometry is shown on the drawing
that is actually outside the desired support or component area.

This occurs in particular when two or more supports (holding structures) cross or overlap each other in the 3D model.

Example

  • Two supports are located spatially close to each other or intersect slightly.
  • During ortho view creation, Plant 3D automatically creates an OrthoCube around the entire model,

that encompasses both supports.

  • As a result, geometry inside this cube is also displayed on the drawing,

even though it does not belong to the desired view.

Background

During automatic view generation, Plant 3D by default creates a single OrthoCube around all selected objects.
As soon as objects overlap spatially, Plant 3D extends this cube
until it includes the complete geometry of both supports.
This causes superfluous components or structures to appear in the drawing,
even though they are not part of the desired view.

Solution

The solution is provided by the SuCri setting DetailOrthoCube.
When this option is enabled, SuCri first creates its own OrthoCube for each object.
These individual cubes are then merged into a common cube,
that encompasses exactly the area relevant for view creation.

As a result, only the desired objects are taken into account,
and overlapping or crossing geometry outside the supports no longer appears on the drawing.

Recommendation

  • Enable the DetailOrthoCube setting in the SuCri settings when several supports or complex steel assemblies are present in the model.
  • This ensures that each drawing contains clean, object-related views.
  • This setting is particularly helpful in projects with supports located closely together, e.g. in pipe bridges or plant areas with a dense structure.
