4.2.14. Attaching with reference (SuCri2AttachSupportWithRef)

    Overview

Attaching with reference forms an assembly (SU number) from components of the current drawing and additionally links it to objects from an external reference (Xref). Typically, steelwork and piping are located in separate drawings. The link ensures that the referenced objects also belong to the assembly, for example for drawing generation in Module 4.

Where can I find the function?

On the SuCri tool palette, Module 2 tab, in the collapsible Xrefs section as Attach Xref. The tool palette is available once you pin the dashboard (SuCri tab, Module 2 group, manufacturer button) with Pin to tool palette.

Alternatively, enter SuCri2AttachSupportWithRef in the command line.

Video: Attaching with reference in practice

Note on the video: In the video, the reference is inserted with the reference type Attachment. This is not required for this command; the reference type Overlay is sufficient and is the default. Attachment is only necessary if the references are also to appear on the Module 4 drawing.

    How it works in detail

    1. Select components of the current drawing: Select the components that form the assembly, for example the support and steel profiles, and confirm with the Enter key.

    2. Define the SU number: The Enter SU number dialog opens with a suggestion. If the selected components already carry an SU number, this number is suggested. The dialog indicates if a number is already assigned in the drawing or in the project. Clicking OK assigns the number, as with normal attaching.

    3. Select objects in the reference: The command line prompts Select nested object in a reference (0 selected):. Click the objects in the external reference one by one. Each selected object is highlighted and the counter increases. Press the Enter key or use the Done option to finish the selection, or Cancel to abort.

    4. Result: On each component selected in step 1, SuCri stores which objects from which reference drawing belong to it. The referenced objects themselves are not changed. If Module 4 is installed and an orthocube already exists for the assembly, SuCri asks in the Recreate Ortho Cube dialog whether it should be recreated. With Yes, the old orthocube is deleted and recreated to match the new scope; with No (default), it remains unchanged.

    Application examples

Example 1: Linking a support with the pipe from the reference

The steelwork is in your drawing, the piping comes as an Xref. Select the support and profiles, confirm the SU number and then click the pipe in the reference. The assembly now also knows the pipe.

    Example 2: Redefining the link

If the assembly is to refer to other reference objects, call the command again with the same components and, in step 3, select all reference objects that are to belong to it. The previous list is replaced in the process.

    Tips and best practices

    • Make a complete selection in the second step: When the command is called again, the new selection replaces the previous link; it is not added to it.
    • Reference type: The Xref does not have to be attached. Use the reference type Overlay by default. Only select Attachment if the references are also to appear on the Module 4 drawing.
    • Keep the reference loaded: The link stores the drawing name and object identifier. If the reference is removed or renamed, SuCri can no longer find the objects.
    • Difference from normal attaching: Attaching only works with components of the current drawing. As soon as objects of an Xref are to belong to the assembly, this command is the right one.
    • Detaching individual links: Use Detach Xref to remove specific reference objects, and Detach all Xrefs to remove all of them at once.

    Troubleshooting

    • *Cancel* after the reference selection: The selection was ended with Cancel or Esc. The SU number from step 2 has then already been assigned, but the link to the reference is empty. Call the command again.
    • Command ends after the SU dialog: The dialog was closed with Cancel; nothing is changed.
    • Object in the reference cannot be clicked: Check whether the reference is loaded and visible.
