Connection Free End

With the Free end connection type (I), you place a connection at the end of a single profile, for example a base plate or a wall connection. A second profile is not required. You determine the profile end with your click point: click the profile near the end at which the connection is to be created.

Prerequisites

• Advance Steel™ or AutoCAD Plant 3D™ is installed.
• SuCri Module 3 is loaded and licensed.
• A 3D model with at least one profile (beam) is open.
• The profile is visible and selectable in model space.

Step-by-step guide

Step 1: Start the connection type

1. On the SuCri tab, Module 3 group, click Connections.
2. In the connection dialog, click the Free end button.

Alternatively: If Module 3 is pinned to the tool palette, click Free end in the Connections group (command SuCri3ConnectFreeEnd).

Expected result: The command line prompts you to make a selection with Select Beam to Connect.

Step 2: Click the profile at the desired end

1. Click the profile near the end at which the connection is to be placed.

Expected result: SuCri recognizes the profile arrangement and shows the list of matching end connections with image, designation and item number.

Step 3: Select the connection from the list

1. Click the desired product in the list. SuCri places it immediately at the selected profile end.
2. If the product comes with a choice of bolts or anchors, the Bolts/Anchors window opens. Select the matching part there.

Expected result: The connection is created in the model. Plates, bolts and dimensions are determined by the selected product; there is no separate parameter window.

Step 4: Further profiles or finishing

1. If further profile ends are to receive the same connection, click the icon of the connection type in the list entry and select the next profiles. The prompt repeats until you cancel with Esc.
2. Exit the dialog with Close.

Important notes

• Only one profile: With Free end you select only the profile. A connection object is not selected in advance; the connection comes from the list.
• Click point: The connection is created at the end you clicked. A rough click position near the desired end is sufficient.
• Bolts and anchors: Whether bolts and anchors are inserted completely, displayed in simplified form or marked as existing is controlled by the Screw insertion mode setting in the Settings window (command SuCriSettings), Module 3 tab.

Troubleshooting

• Problem: The connection sits at the wrong end of the profile.
  • Solution: Delete the connection and place it again. This time, click the profile closer to the desired end.
• Problem: No list appears after the profile selection.
  • Solution: There is no matching end connection for this profile, or the selected object is not a valid profile (message 1 Beam required). Check the command line.
• Problem: Bolts or anchors are not displayed.
  • Solution: Check the Screw insertion mode setting on the Module 3 tab in the Settings window.
