4.3.11. Check profile lengths (SuCri3ValidateProfileLength)
On this page
Overview
Check profile lengths checks whether the installed steel profiles can be ordered. SuCri compares the length of each profile with the permissible length range from the profile data, colors profiles that are too short or too long red and creates a report with position, profile name and length.
Where can I find the function?
Enter the command SuCri3ValidateProfileLength in the command line. If Module 3 is pinned to the tool palette, you will find the function in the Extras group (collapsed area) under Validate profile length.

Video: Check profile lengths in practice
How it works in detail
- SuCri loads the profile data from the file
ProfileData.jsonin the Module 3 resource folder. A minimum and a maximum length value is stored there for each profile. - In Plant 3D™, all structural profiles and all supports with a profile in the current space of the drawing are collected. A preselection is not evaluated in Plant 3D™. The command line reports the number of objects found.
- For each profile, the length is rounded to whole millimeters and compared with the range from the profile data. Profiles for which no definition exists are skipped and noted in the log file.
- If the length is outside the range, the profile is colored red in the model and added to the report.
- If there are invalid profiles, SuCri writes the report as the text file
SuCri_ProfileLengthReport_<Datum_Uhrzeit>.txtto the temporary folder and opens it in Windows Notepad. Each line of the report contains a sequential number, the position (coordinates of the profile start), the profile name, the length and the valid range.
At the end, the command line reports either the number of profiles with an invalid length and the path of the report, or Validation complete. All selected profiles have a valid length according to ProfileData.
Application examples
Example 1: Check before ordering
You run the command before creating the bill of materials. You adjust the profiles marked in red before ordering.
Example 2: Finding flagged locations again
Using the coordinates in the report, you can quickly find the affected profiles in the model again, even in large drawings.
Tips and best practices
- Run before ordering: Otherwise, a profile that cannot be ordered is only noticed by the supplier.
- Note the red coloring: The color is set directly on the profile and remains after the length has been corrected. Reset the color manually if necessary.
- Save the report: The report is located in the temporary folder. Save it elsewhere if you want to keep it.
Troubleshooting
- Validation aborted: The profile data could not be loaded: The file
ProfileData.jsonis missing or corrupt. Check the installation and the log file. - No valid Plant 3D beams or supports found for validation: There are no structural profiles or supports with a profile in the current space of the drawing. Switch to model space if necessary.
- A profile is not checked: There is no entry for the profile name in the profile data. The log file contains a warning about this.
