8.6.8. When creating a drawing with Module 4, further models are opened

In this guide you will learn why additional DWG files are automatically opened during the drawing derivation with SuCri Module 4. This background knowledge helps you to better understand how the software works and to increase the efficiency of your project creation.
Prerequisites
- The plugin SuCri Module 4 is installed in your system environment.
- You are in the process of drawing derivation for a Support Unit (SU).
Step-by-step guide
- Start the drawing creation for a specific Support Unit (SU) as usual via Module 4.
- Observe the process in AutoCAD/Plant 3D. During the creation you will notice that several DWG files open in the background.

These files can contain, for example, pipes, structures or other plant areas.
Expected result: The system processes this data automatically in order to generate a complete view and bill of materials. -
Wait until the process of drawing derivation is complete.
Expected result: The additionally opened files are usually closed automatically again after the creation is complete, or can now be closed manually.
Important notes
- Background of this behaviour: This procedure is not an error but is intended by design. The files are indirectly connected to the SU, since they are either attached as XREFs (external references) or contain objects that are referenced in the SU model.
- Performance: For reasons of performance and data integrity, SuCri opens these linked DWGs in order to correctly calculate weights, references and bills of materials.
- Additional objects: If additional pipe objects appear in the drawing, this results from the Plant 3D bill of materials configuration.
Troubleshooting
- Problem: Too many or unwanted files are opened.
Solution: Check the SU file for unnecessary XREFs or outdated project links. Remove references that are not needed in order to keep the number of automatically loaded models low. - Problem: The bill of materials contains unexpected pipe objects.
Solution: Adjust the Plant 3D bill of materials configuration project-specifically if certain object classes are not to be taken into account.
