8.6.8. When creating a drawing with Module 4, further models are opened

In this guide you will learn why additional DWG files are opened when working with SuCri Module 4. This background knowledge helps you understand how the software works and organize your projects efficiently.
Prerequisites
- SuCri Module 4 is installed.
- You are creating or updating ortho drawings for an assembly (SU).
Step-by-step guide

Create the drawing for an assembly as usual with Module 4, or update existing views with
SuCri4PlantOrthoUpdateorSuCri4PlantOrthoUpdateAllView. -
When updating the views, Module 4 opens the model files referenced by the views, provided they are not already open. It also loads the XREFs of these models.
Expected result: SuCri can evaluate the data of all referenced models, e.g. for dimensioning, weight and bill of materials. - When finished, SuCri switches back to the ortho drawing. The additionally opened models remain open.
- If necessary, close the additional models manually when you have finished working on the drawing.
Important notes
- Background of this behavior: This procedure is not an error but intended. The views of an ortho drawing refer to one or more models, for example because pipelines or steel structures are located in other DWGs or are attached as XREFs.
- Models already open: If a model is already open, SuCri uses the existing file and does not open it a second time.
- Additional objects: If additional piping objects appear in the drawing, this results from the Plant 3D bill of materials configuration.
Troubleshooting
- Problem: Too many or unwanted files are opened.
Solution: Check the model of the assembly for unnecessary XREFs or outdated links. Remove references that are not needed to keep the number of automatically opened models low. - Problem: The bill of materials contains unexpected piping objects.
Solution: Adjust the Plant 3D bill of materials configuration for the specific project if certain object classes are not to be taken into account.
