4.3. Module 3 (P3D), Functions of the SuCri modules

Module 3 (P3D)

Welcome to Module 3 for AutoCAD Plant 3D™. With Module 3, you create steel connections between profiles directly in the Plant 3D model, maintain item numbers and component data, and keep connections and blocks up to date with the manufacturer catalogs.

How to access the functions

• Ribbon: Tab SuCri, group Module 3. The Connections button opens the connection dialog; the manufacturer buttons open the Module 3 window with the Quick Access.
• Tool palette: In the Module 3 window, you pin the functions via the pin icon Pin to tool palette. The palette is divided into the groups Connections, Parts, Update and the collapsed area Extras.
• Command line: All commands start with SuCri3.

Contents of this section

• 4.3.1. Update all blocks in the active DWG (SuCri3BatchUpdateBlocks): Reloads the block definitions of the SuCri components from the component models so that the drawing shows the current state of the catalogs.
• 4.3.2. Update all connections in the active DWG (SuCri3BatchUpdateConnections): First updates the blocks and then rebuilds the selected connections. Without a selection, all connections in the drawing are processed.
• 4.3.3. Place grid system on drawing (SuCri3DrawGridToLayoutPlan): Draws the saved grid of a selected component into the layout plan at the scale of the viewport.
• 4.3.4. Export anchor list (SuCri3ExportAnchors): Exports the SuCri anchors of the current drawing with names and coordinates to an Excel list.
• 4.3.5. Reload manufacturer data (SuCri3ReloadData): Clears the caches and reloads manufacturer data and settings from the hard disk so that changed data takes effect immediately.
• 4.3.6. Set grid reference (SuCri3SetGridReference): Saves the grid reference (horizontal and vertical grid) on the selected component.
• 4.3.7. Update item numbers (SuCri3SetItemCodes): Writes the item number from the SuCri profile data to all steel profiles in the drawing. A video tutorial supports you with this.
• 4.3.8. Tolerance settings (distance and angle): No longer a separate command. You set the distance and angle tolerance in the Settings window on the Module 3 tab. They determine which connections are offered for the selected profiles.
• 4.3.9. Open log file (SuCri3ShowLog): Opens the SuCri log file so that you can trace messages and errors.
• 4.3.10. Open connection dialog (SuCri3ShowSelectConnection): Opens the dialog for selecting the connection type. After the profile selection, SuCri lists the suitable connectors; one click creates the connection. This section contains further subarticles on the individual connection types.
• 4.3.11. Check profile lengths (SuCri3ValidateProfileLength): Checks the length of the profiles against the SuCri profile data and reports the invalid ones in a report.

Further functions in the tool palette

• Start connections directly: In the Connections group, each connection type starts immediately with the profile selection, without the first page of the connection dialog: Collision (SuCri3ConnectCollision), Free end (SuCri3ConnectFreeEnd), Crossing (SuCri3ConnectCrossing), Joint (SuCri3ConnectJoint), 3 corner (SuCri3Connect3Corner), 4 corner (SuCri3Connect4Corner) and Parallel (SuCri3ConnectParallel).
• Validate connections (SuCri3ValidateConnections): checks whether the connected profiles still match the placed connections and offers valid replacement connections.
• Dyn. properties (SuCri3DynamicProperties): updates the dynamic properties of the SuCri supports in the selected project drawings.
• Load Dynamic Property (SuCri3LoadDynamicProperty): loads definitions of dynamic properties from an Excel file of the manufacturer catalog.
• Fix profile weights (SuCri3FixWeightProfiles): recalculates the profile weights from the weight per meter in the selected drawings.
• Connection boxes (SuCri3ShowConnectionBox): shows or hides the wireframe boxes of the connections and typicals.
• Beam coordinates (SuCri3DrawBeamCoordinates): draws the coordinate systems at both ends of a selected profile.

SuCri Connection context menu

Right-clicking the connection box of a SuCri connection shows the SuCri Connection submenu with the entries Modify (select another connector), Copy (transfer the connection to other profiles), Update (rebuild the connection), Delete (delete the connection) and Isolate (show only the parts of this connection).

Module 3 settings

You edit the Module 3 options in the Settings window: tab SuCri in the ribbon, button Settings, or command SuCriSettings, then the Module 3 tab. Here you will find, among other things, the distance and angle tolerance, the decimal places of the cut length, connection shortening, screw insertion, the layer for new connection parts and the two welding options for Advance Steel™.
