Overview
Annotate view with ortho annotations places the annotations of an orthographic view automatically instead of object by object by hand. In standard Plant 3D™, you select the information via the context menu, click in the viewport and then on the object, and you do this individually for every object in every viewport.
Module 4 does this for you and also places the annotations in suitable locations: pulled outward orthogonally and aligned in a row. The annotation styles that Plant 3D™ offers for the objects in the view are used.
Where can I find the function?
In the Module 4 window under Drawings or Quick Access, there Auto Annotations. If Module 4 is pinned to the tool palette, you will find the function in the Annotation group under Annotations. Alternatively via the command line with SUCRI4PlantOrthoAnnotate.

How it works in detail
The command only works in a layout of an ortho drawing.
- Select the viewport that is to be annotated.
- At the prompt Do you want to delete the old annotation?, decide what should happen to the existing annotations:
- 0. Append: Existing annotations are retained, and the new ones are added.
- 1. Replace Auto Generated (default): Only the automatically generated annotations are replaced; manually placed ones remain.
- 2. Replace All: All annotations of the view are replaced.
- Under Select annotation style, define what the annotation refers to. SuCri offers the styles that are available for the objects in this view, for example for the pipes with Center of Pipe or for the steel beams with Top of Steel.
Because the decision about the old annotations is made anew with each call, several passes can be combined: first place the pipe elevations, then in a second pass add the steel elevations with Append while keeping the existing ones.
Application examples
Example 1: Pipe and steel elevations one after the other
In the first pass Center of Pipe for the pipes, in the second Top of Steel for the beams, keeping the existing annotations with Append. The result is a fully annotated view.
Example 2: Redoing the annotation
If the annotations have become jumbled, select Replace Auto Generated or Replace All when calling the command. The annotations are cleanly repositioned.
Tips and best practices
- Choose deliberately between keeping and replacing: This is the decisive switch when you combine several passes.
- Applies to all ortho annotations: Not only to elevations, but to every annotation that Plant 3D™ offers there.
- Custom formats: For annotations with your own pattern, for example with the SU number, use Annotate view with custom annotations.
- Layer and offset: You define the layer, offset and placement of the annotations in the Settings window (command
SuCriSettings), Module 4 tab.
Troubleshooting
- Wrong drawing: If SuCri reports that the command only works in an ortho drawing or only in a layout, open the ortho drawing and switch from the Model tab to the layout.
- No annotation formats are defined for the class of the selected object. No annotation style exists in Plant 3D™ for this object type. Check the ortho settings of the project.
