    Overview

    This document provides you with a detailed guide to using the SuCri module Support + Clamping system in AutoCAD Plant 3D and Advance Steel. You will learn how to intelligently attach a clamping system to a beam structure in order to safely suspend components such as pipes.

    Call it via the command SuCri2AutoSelectSupportClamp or via the ribbon SuCri > Module 2.

    How it works in detail

    Step 1: Accessing the function

    1. Open your CAD application and load the relevant project.
    2. In the ribbon, look for the SuCri tab or the SuCri palette.
    3. In the group for Module 2, Functions, click the command Support + Clamping system (alternatively enter the command SuCri2AutoSelectSupportClamp).

    Expected result: The automatic selection process is started.

    Step 2: Selecting the beam

    1. Watch for the prompt in the command line to select the reference beam.
    2. Click the beam (e.g. the I-profile) to which the system is to be attached.

    Expected result: The beam is registered in the system for the clamping.

    Step 3: Defining the fixing point

    1. Define a point on the beam for the mounting.
    2. Use the object snaps (OSNAP) for maximum precision (e.g. Midpoint or Endpoint).

    Expected result: The plugin recognizes the point as a reference for the placement.

    Step 4: Selecting the object to be supported

    1. Now select the object that is to be supported (e.g. a pipe).
    2. Confirm the selection by clicking the 3D object.

    Step 5: Defining the support point and alignment

    1. Define the exact point on the pipe where the support is to engage.
    2. Use Nearest for an orthogonal alignment or the Midpoint for a centered placement.
    3. If necessary, follow the instructions in the command line to correct the alignment manually, in case the system does not do this automatically.

    Step 6: Final generation

    1. The system now automatically calculates the required components (beam clamp, threaded rod, pipe fixing).
    2. If a dialog window appears, you can manually adjust parameters such as the suspension length, although in the standard case this happens automatically.

    Expected result: The complete, intelligent clamping system is placed as a 3D object in the model.

    Tips and best practices

    • Precision: Using object snaps (key F3) is crucial for error-free positioning.
    • Libraries: The plugin accesses stored component catalogs; make sure the required dimensions are available in the SuCri settings.
    • Intelligence: The generated objects are parametrically linked. When the beam position changes, the clamping system usually adapts automatically.
    • Collision check: Always perform a visual check or an automated collision check after placement.

    Troubleshooting

    • System is not generated: Check whether the pipe diameter or the beam profile is stored in the SuCri libraries.
    • Wrong alignment: Delete the component and start the command again. Pay particular attention to the selected object snaps.
    • Command does not respond: Make sure the license is active and the plugin was loaded correctly. Restarting the CAD software can help.
    • No automatic adaptation: In the properties, check whether it is an intelligent SuCri object or whether the link was broken by manual editing.
