    Overview

The orthocube is a box around each assembly. It determines which area of the model is derived into the ortho drawing. With Show orthocube you make the orthocubes of all assemblies of the drawing visible in the 3D model, check the derivation area and can adjust it if necessary.

Where can I find the function?

    Command line: SuCri4ShowOrthoCube.

If the Module 4 window is pinned to the tool palette, the function is located on the Module 4 tab of the SuCri tool palette in the collapsed Extras group, Ortho Cube button.

    Video: Show orthocube

    How it works in detail

    1. Check assemblies: SuCri goes through all assemblies (SU) of the active drawing. If an assembly is missing its orthocube, it is created ("Ortho cube created for SU: …"). Assemblies without objects are skipped. For assemblies whose front is defined as a rear view, SuCri adjusts the cube if necessary ("Ortho cube updated for the rear view").

    2. Display: The orthocubes are located on the SuCriOrthoCube layer. If new cubes were created or the layer did not yet exist, SuCri makes it visible and reports "Total SUs: …, cubes created: …, existing cubes: …".

    3. Toggle: If there is nothing new to create, the same command toggles the display. The command line then reports "Ortho cubes shown" or "Ortho cubes hidden".

    4. Edit: The video shows that the cube can be changed or deleted with the familiar arrow grips and then cleanly recreated.

When views are created, SuCri automatically hides the orthocube layer again.

    Application examples

    Example 1: Check after detaching

After removing reference parts, check whether the cube now only encloses the desired scope. This is more reliable than looking at the model.

    Example 2: Adjusting the section

The derived drawing is cropped too tightly or too generously. You drag the cube to the desired size with the arrow grips instead of changing the assembly.

    Tips and best practices

    • Look at it before every derivation: The cube shows the result in advance.
    • Recreate instead of bending into shape: After major changes, delete the cube and call the command again; a fresh cube is then created.
    • Set the allowance: How much clearance the cube leaves at the top, bottom and sides is controlled by the OrthoCubeOffset setting.

    Troubleshooting

    • Wrong drawing: The command only runs in a 3D model drawing. If an ortho drawing is active, SuCri reports this and aborts. Open the 3D model and start the command again.
    • "There is no SU in this drawing": No assemblies have been attached yet.
    • "SU … is skipped: No objects found": There are no longer any parts for the SU number in the drawing.
