4.3.10.7. Adjust profiles for connection
On this page
Overview
In practice, profiles are rarely perfectly positioned in relation to each other. This article shows what to do if a connection is not created, and why the command line is the most important source of information in this case.
Where can I find the function?
The notes appear in the command line while the connection is being created in the connection dialog (SuCri tab, Module 3 group, Connections button).

Step by step
- Create the connection as usual: select the connection type, the main profile, then the second profile.
- If the dialog returns to the first page without a list of connectors, read the command line.
- The message states the required and the current distance as well as the direction: Connection '<name>' requires distance = <target>, current distance = <actual>. Move the second beam <difference> closer to the main beam (or further from the main beam).
- Move the second profile by the stated difference in the stated direction.
- Create the connection again.

How it works in detail
SuCri compares the distance between the profiles with the distance that the connector requires. If the deviation exceeds the set distance tolerance, the connector is not offered and the command line states the target and actual values.
In the video, a distance of 104 mm is required, while the actual distance between the centerlines is 100 mm. The difference of 4 mm is the thickness of the plate that is placed between the profiles. After the upper profile has been raised by 4 mm, the connection is created. It behaves like any other: it appears with all parts and bolts in the Data Manager and can be edited via its connection box.
Application examples
Example 1: Connection is not offered
Instead of guessing, read the required and actual distance from the command line. The difference is the amount by which the second profile has to be moved.
Example 2: Adopted structure
In an adopted steel structure, many distances deviate slightly. Besides moving individual profiles, an adjusted distance tolerance in the Module 3 settings may be the faster way.
Tips and best practices
- Read the command line: The dialog returns without comment; the reason is in the command line.
- The difference has a reason: It is often exactly the space required by a connection part such as a plate.
- Increase the tolerance sparingly: A large tolerance masks inaccuracies. Move the profile if the difference is due to the design.
Troubleshooting
- No message in the command line: In that case, the cause is not the distance but, for example, the angle, the profile type or the license. Check the log file with
SuCri3ShowLog.
